Literacy


At Bass Coast Specialist School all students participate in daily literacy sessions that focus on developing reading, writing and communication skills.

Our reading recovery teacher works 1-1 with students to extend their reading skills and teach strategies that will assist students to develop their literacy skills.

All students participate in cued articulation and letter work daily.

Along with word building activities and daily guided reading.

Communication devices and communication books and programs are used throughout the school and during literacy sessions.

Students also participate in holistic literacy sessions where they explore and experiment with hard copy texts, digital texts, interactive and sensory literacy activities and communication/signing activities.

These sessions aim to teach literacy/communication skills, cater for all studentsí individual needs and develop a love of reading and listening to stories for all students.
